STEVENS POINT − A 6-year-old Portage County girl officials had been searching for since she disappeared with her uncle the afternoon of Sept. 11 has been found safe.
At 5:50 p.m. Sept. 13, a notice went out that the Amber Alert for the Almond girl had been canceled. The alert said the 6-year-old girl was safe and her uncle had been taken into custody.
The Portage County Sheriff’s Office said the girl had been picked up from school Sept. 11 by her grandmother. Her family noticed she was missing at 3:39 p.m. Sept. 11. They called officials at 4:42 p.m. Multiple fire departments and residents in the Almond area were out searching for Ruby until about 9 p.m.

The girl’s family didn’t tell authorities until close to 9 p.m. that they suspected the girl’s uncle had taken her, Portage County Sheriff Mike Lukas said in a Sept. 12 press conference.
The Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation and the FBI helped with the search, Lukas said.
