
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were involved in a shooting Oct. 2, 2025.
The shooting unfolded minutes before 6 p.m. in the 900 block of North Grant Street on the city’s east side.
Details about what led to the shooting and whether a suspect was injured were not immediately available.

According to police activity available online the shooting happened in the 900 block of North Grant Avenue, which is a couple of blocks from the Linwood Square shopping plaza and Kroger.
Were any officers injured?
Police said no officers were hurt.
Officer-involved shootings in Indianapolis for 2025
On Sept. 20, 4-year Officer Ethan Vanover shot at McDonald’s employee, Brian K. Edwards, 34, but missed. Officers were called about a disturbance in the 2400 block of East 34th Street. Inside the restaurant, a struggle ensued between two officers, including Vanover. Vanover fired at Edwards, who was armed, inside the restaurant but he was able to escape. Officers chased Edwards down a nearby alley before he was taken into custody near 39th Street and Tacoma Avenue. No one was hurt.
On Aug. 14, 7-year Officer Nicolas Deem was in a marked patrol vehicle around midnight looking for a domestic disturbance suspect from a call hours earlier. Officers found the suspect’s vehicle, and a pursuit ensued. In the 400 block of West 28th Street, two people got out of the vehicle and fired multiple shots at officers, police said. Deem fired his weapon at the suspects, but no injuries were reported, and the disturbance suspect has not been apprehended.
On July 29, Tyson Reach, 19, was shot and killed by third-year Officer Alejandro Renteria after a traffic stop. Just after 2 p.m., Renteria was following a carjacked vehicle near the intersection of West 16th Street and North Harding Street. Renteria was shot by Reach and taken to the hospital in stable condition, but Reach was in critical condition before dying three weeks later on Aug. 22. Three other men who were inside the vehicle were arrested.
On July 24, Walter McNary, 76, was shot and killed by 10-year Officer Alfred Robinson after fleeing the scene of his wife’s homicide, in which he was a suspect, that happened at about 7:20 a.m. He fled the scene, leading to a police chase that culminated in a stand-off and shooting in the 900 block of West 32nd Street, which is a dead-end street. He fired at officers with a rifle before being shot. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition before later dying.
On March 28, Michael Hendricks, 50, was shot by fifth-year Officer Patrick Tieken. Hendricks was taken to a hospital in stable condition before being arrested for his alleged role in a double shooting where one man died. At 3:05 p.m., officers were called to the 1300 block of Riley Place at the Rowney Terrace apartment complex for a person shot. One man was found outside of an apartment, and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Another man was found dead inside. Court documents revealed the fight was over $40.
On Feb. 25, Adam Javonta Sykes, 31, was shot and killed by third-year Officer Grant Snyder. About 2:15 a.m., officers were called to the 1600 block of East Washington Street to help a woman injured at a gas station. Unrelated to the original call, Snyder noticed Sykes, who had a theft warrant, leaving the gas station. A short foot pursuit ensued, and Snyder shot Sykes after police said he observed Sykes fall to the ground and reach for a gun that was later recovered at the scene.
