Robert Cosby Jr., son of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby, died on Monday (Feb. 23), TMZ reports. He was 23.
Salt Lake City police informed the outlet that they responded to a “full arrest/medical emergency” on Monday for a 23-year-old male, and that firefighters and paramedics were sent. According to the report, the police “responded to a possible overdose,” which became a death investigation. The cause of death is still unclear.
A Salt Lake City Police Department spokesperson also confirmed the news to Page Six.
DECIDER was unable to reach a representative for Mary Cosby. DECIDER also reached out to Bravo for comment, but did not hear back by time of publication.
Robert made cameos on the Bravo reality series, including in November 2024, when he opened up to his mother about his struggles with drugs and his past suicidal thoughts. He was also arrested in September for “failure to stop at the command of law enforcement, criminal trespassing, assault, and three alleged violations of a court order,” per TMZ.

Speaking with DECIDER days after the arrest, Mary said that “Robert is doing the best he cab do.”
“It’s his journey,” she explained. “I can’t make his mind up for him. I can’t walk him through it. He has to do it himself. That’s why I say he’s doing the best he can. He’s trying, and that’s all I can ask for him. So, I mean, it is what it is. It’s still, you know, tears. But I feel like it gets worse before it gets better. It’s his journey and I think he’s doing excellent for his journey. [There are] hurdles that he has to still climb and [it’s] just making up your mind. Just having a made-up mind. I feel like that is the whole sole purpose. If your mind is made up, there’s nothing you can’t do. I feel like if his mind’s not made up and he still enjoys it, if he’s still enjoying it and he’s still thinking it’s OK, then there’s no growth. But he’s doing the best as he can. He says, “Mom, my mind’s made up.” And I’m like, ‘Well, it doesn’t look like it.’ I have to see it, too. Not just hear it. So we’re kind of in that phase. But he’s doing good, I can’t complain.”
Andy Cohen mourned the loss of Robert on Threads on Wednesday, writing, “Devastatingly sad news out of SLC. This is every parent’s worst nightmare. My heart is broken for Mary, and I am sending all my love to her and Robert Sr.”
