Welcome to March, my dudes — a month that marks the start of a brand-new astrological year.
On Tuesday, March 3, we welcome a total lunar eclipse in Virgo, and on March 20, the spring equinox, which opens the flood, or fire gates, of Aries season.
We’ll spend the whole of the month under the influence of the year’s first Mercury retrograde and its post-retrograde shadow, making clarity a crucial resource.
Lending the light to the merry month of March, author and tarot reader Kerry Ward has prepared a tarot spread for each zodiac element using her Zodiac Love Match Oracle Deck.
Fire signs – Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Free Spirit, Say Goodbye, Fun Fling
According to Ward, the theme for fire signs this month is freedom.
“You are releasing all that no longer works or serves you well, including some bonds and connections. Not all connections are meant to last a lifetime; most are just a season,” she told The Post. “The Free Spirit card gives you total permission to place people where they belong in your life or beyond it. You don’t owe anyone anything!”
Building on this theme of release, the Say Goodbye card is not necessarily about endings (though it could include them) but rather letting go of people and patterns that prevent you from reaching your full potential.
“Chuck out the dead wood. Break the old routines. Stop spiralling over old ground,” advised Ward.
All this purposeful purging sets the stage for a Fun Fling, “which may manifest as a literal fling or a playful, passionate, and imaginative phase with your current partner. All relationships endure different weather, and the forecast is sunny in March!”
Earth signs – Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Aquarius, Give In to Desire, Intimate and Independent
Aquarian energy abounds for Earth signs this month and could manifest as a literal encounter with someone who embodies the water bearer ethos or a personal channeling of the sign’s innovative, truth-forward approach to life.
“Perhaps you want to reinvent how your love life feels. We all change, and our relationships have to bend and grow with us, or they become restrictive and brittle,” said Ward.
She notes that clarity and desire are key for Earth babies this month, and knowing what you want gives your passion a purposeful channel.
“Give in to your true desires, Earth signs, and let them lead you towards what needs to change. Suppressing your needs for the sake of another is unsustainable.”
Ward assures that magic is made in a bond that balances intimacy and independence.
“A relationship that has plenty of ‘wriggle room’ for you to change, evolve, make mistakes, grow, and learn. This is your ultimate goal, and with honesty, reinvention, and good communication, it’s possible this March.”
Air signs – Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Soul Mate, Manifest Your Life, Happy Ever After
March is a boon for air signs, as Ward predicts romantic bliss will be on the rise.
“A soul mate situation with happily ever after potential is coming through- be that a new bond or a new era within your existing connection. It may come in the shape of a proposal, or it may be quieter and more steadfast, a grounding and secure energy that makes you feel protected, making the relationship your ‘safe space,’” said Ward.
She notes that being open and reciprocal with your partner about your individual and shared dreams and ambitions is key to deepening and anchoring your connection.
“Paint a vision they can believe in, and you can begin to build together, which will bring you closer than ever. Romance is about much more than passion. It’s the glue that builds shared lives.”
Water signs – Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Best Friend, Heal the Heartbreak, Solitude
Ward notes that this unholy trinity of cards suggests breakup energy is nigh for water signs.
“These cards hint at an enforced phase of solitude and singledom that has been necessary but is now passing, albeit with just a bit longer to go! March is like a final darkness before the new dawn — even if you’re already attached to someone, you may feel a little alone and in your own thoughts. And that’s okay.”
She urges fish folk to seek out camaraderie over carnal pursuits in the weeks ahead.
“Find someone who feels like a best friend. Don’t force the romance or fish for reassurance. Gravitate to where you feel safe, understood, loved, and listened to,” Ward told The Post. “And pour out your heart — this is the time to heal any lingering old wounds or heartbreak echoes.”
She shared that processing this pain in a dispassionate dynamic may offer new insights.
“Solitude is necessary, too, time to reflect and think and daydream and scratch at the tender parts. Cry, grieve, imagine, atone, accept and then release. March is a powerful turning point — for the better!”
