Cornyn’s call to kill the filibuster: Letters to the Editor — March 14, 2026

Cornyn’s call to kill the filibuster: Letters to the Editor — March 14, 2026

The Issue: Sen. John Cornyn calling for Republican support to end the filibuster to pass the voter-ID law.

I have never been a huge fan of Sen. John Cornyn, but his stock has risen considerably after reading his article regarding eliminating the filibuster (“Damn the Filibuster,” PostOpinion, March 12).

The only way the SAVE Act can pass is with a simple majority, as the Democrats, except for Sen. John Fetterman, will never support anything proposed by the Republicans.

The last few Republican holdouts in the Senate need to act in the interest of the people.

As representatives of the people, senators have an obligation to support an act strongly supported by their constituents.

Voter-ID laws seem so reasonable.

I have to use ID to get into the NYU Hospital, to return items to certain stores in New York City and to access certain buildings.

Why do Democrats fear having to show ID?

It’s time for Chuck Schumer to put a sock in it and be a responsible politician instead of fanning the flames.

I was alarmed to read my senator, John Cornyn, advocating for the SAVE America act in The Post.

He all but says he will throw his morality aside to pass the bill.

Cornyn claims it’s necessary to maintain the integrity of voting.

Yet, he’s said nothing about the Republican Party, in conjunction with the state, denying Dallas voters access to their correct polling locations.

The SAVE Act doesn’t make voting more secure, it extends what was done in Dallas, disenfranchising as many voters as possible.

Cornyn gets it right.

Democrats will abolish the filibuster the first chance they get.

If the Republicans don’t act first, they will be characterized as being weak and impotent, rightfully so.

In the 1990s, Schumer said voter-ID “is an anti-fraud amendment.”

But now, in 2026, he says it is “Jim Crow 2.0.”

So which is it?

Sadly, Schumer appears to have zero shame when he speaks out of both sides of his mouth.

Democrats opposing the SAVE Act are being exposed.

Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Hakeem Jefferies say they will not vote to fund Homeland Security until their reforms to ICE are met.

Schumer says having ICE agents at polling places will eliminate tens of millions from voting because they’re not registered.

And they say Republicans are a threat to democracy.

Only legal American citizens should be allowed to vote, and even then, only once.

The Issue: An illegal migrant with a criminal record allegedly pushing two subway riders onto the tracks.

Jhon Pena is a true hero, and all the others who helped rescue him and Air Force veteran Richard Williams are special people for stepping forward in an emergency (“Pushed the envelope,” March 12).

Illegal immigrants like Bairon Hernandez, who allegedly pushed both men onto the tracks, are who the Democratic Party is trying to protect by shutting down the Department of Homeland Security and not paying its workers.

Bruce Collins

Another day, another alleged migrant crime.

Now we have two people shoved on the subway, lucky to be alive.

Do the Democrats ever acknowledge any of these crimes, or does every incident come with an excuse?

Sen. Schumer finds a microphone for everything except denouncing antisemitic and migrant crime.
