Jefry Yan’s electric Mets pitching celebration that ‘gives me energy’ isn’t something new

JUPITER, Fla. — It was just an exhibition game against Team Nicaragua in the middle of spring training, but as Jefry Yan continued to strike hitters out in the top of the ninth Tuesday, his wild celebrations on the mound drew more attention.

First, the Mets minor leaguer leaps high off the mound.

Then he does a bit of a scissor-kick while in the air and follows that with an arm pump or sometimes a gesture toward the sky.

It’s something the 29-year-old left-hander said he began doing in 2023 while with Double-A Pensacola in the Marlins system.
