A 22-year-old Minnesota man allegedly posed as a teenager in order to play high school football.

White Bear Lake Area High School principal Russell Reetz said in a letter to parents, which was subsequently reported by KSTP, KARE and WCCO, that a person over the age of 21 had “provided fraudulent documentation and a false identity to enroll” in the school.

The reported letter said that the person is now in police custody and is not allowed on school property.

WCCO reported that the man is being held in jail for allegedly violating his probation stemming from a 2023 conviction.

KARE spoke to several students at the high school who said the man had been a member of the football team.

“Will this happen again and how can we take steps to prevent that?” junior student Konnor Tran told the outlet. “There’s a significant response needed to make sure that this doesn’t happen.”

One parent expressed her concern to WCCO.

“I’m scared that they’re not keeping our kids safe,” April Jorgenson told the outlet. “I don’t understand how this man got into my kid’s school.”

Minn. State Rep. Elliott Engen has called on the superintendent of White Bear Lake Schools to resign in the wake of the incident.

“So many things have to go wrong for this to occur,” Engen said according to WCCO. “First and foremost, it starts at the top. Leadership needs to be held accountable. Parents should trust that when their kids go to school, they’re going to be safe.”

Engen shared the school’s football roster with KARE, and it reportedly listen the man as a 17-year-old senior cornerback.
