Pussycat Dolls members Nicole Scherzinger, Ashley Roberts and Kimberly Wyatt finally confirmed the longstanding rumor that Britney Spears was supposed to make a cameo in the 2008 music video for their smash hit “When I Grow Up.”
“When we turn and we wave it was going to be Britney we were waving to,” Wyatt exclusively revealed on SiriusXM’s Page Six Radio Thursday.
“I think at one point she did film it, but for whatever reason it just didn’t end up — I don’t think her team allowed it, to be honest,” she concluded.
The girl group famously opened for Spears during her 2008 “Circus” tour while they were promoting their second studio album, “Doll Domination,” in which “When I Grow Up” served as the lead single.
The Pussycat Dolls officially disbanded in 2010, but earlier this month Page Six exclusively reported the news that some of its members would be reuniting.
On March 9, music insiders told us the “Buttons” hitmakers were prepping for a world tour after a 16-year hiatus and that frontwoman Scherzinger is “definitely back” with the band.
Days later, the ladies officially announced the North America tour via Instagram.
This reunion has been a long time coming for the singers. They were expected to do a tour in 2020, but COVID-19 halted those plans.
At the time, Scherzinger, 47, and the band’s founder, Robin Antin, got embroiled in a lengthy legal battle over the canceled tour.
Antin claimed in court papers that Scherzinger announced publicly that she would take part, then said she wouldn’t go on stage unless she got 75% of the profits and complete creative control — a move that Antin called “extortion.” They reached a settlement in 2024.
That same year, as Scherzinger was set to make her Broadway debut in “Sunset Boulevard,” she didn’t rule out a reunion with the band that launched her to pop stardom.
“I love my Dolls. I love the Pussycat Dolls. So, I always say, ‘Never say never,’” she said in an interview with the Daily Mail at the time, while acknowledging she was “obviously in a different place” in her life.
“But you never know what the future holds,” she said, adding that she still kept in touch with her bandmates.
“I’m really happy for the girls. I see them. I love keeping up with them on their Instagrams, and everybody is just thriving and looking good while they’re doing it.”
