‘Stranger Things’ co-creator Ross Duffer confirms series finale will be over two hours long

Stranger Things co-creator Ross Duffer just confirmed the runtimes for the final episodes of the Netflix hit series.

With just four episodes left in the highly anticipated new season, Duffer confirmed on social media that the all of the episodes have a runtime north of an hour, with the series finale clocking in at a whopping two hours.

The next batch of episodes set to premiere Thursday (Dec. 25) include Episode 5, titled “Shock Jock,” which is an hour and eight minutes long; Episode 6, “Escape from Camazotz,” which will run for one hour and 15 minutes; and Episode 7, titled “The Bridge,” which is an hour and six minutes long, according to a social media post shared by Duffer.

Then, the Stranger Things series finale, titled “The Rightside Up,” will air Dec. 31. The finale’s runtime is reportedly two hours and eight minutes, making it the longest episode of the season.

Almost 10 years after the sci-fi hit first premiered on Netflix, the series is finally coming to an end.

Season 5 takes place in the fall of 1987, when life in Hawkins looks very different from the small Indiana town viewers know well by now.

“Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna,” reads the Season 5 synopsis. “But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding.”

It continues, “As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.”

Stranger Things Season 5, Vol. 2 premieres Dec. 25 at 8 p.m. ET.

The season finale premieres Dec. 31 at 8 p.m. ET.
