‘The ‘Burbs’ creator Celeste Hughey finally addresses fan theories about the romantic vibes between Rob and Allison

In The ‘Burbs, Rob Fisher (Jack Whitehall) got a lot more than he bargained for when he moved back into the neighborhood he grew up in.
Rob was looking to build a better life with his wife, Samira (Keke Palmer), and their son when they returned to the picturesque town of Hinkley Hills, where he grew up. But Samira can’t help but notice that something seems to be amiss with the house next door, forcing Rob to confess that his childhood best friend Allison Grant (Erica Dasher) lived there before she went missing almost 20 year ago.
But the revelation was made even more shocking still when they realized Allison was not only very much alive, but she was living next door with the creepy neighbor who had bought the house. (Turns out Gary isn’t so creepy after all.)
Though it might take Rob a while to realize Allison is living right next door, Allison certainly knows he’s back in town. But series creator Celeste Hughey denied to DECIDER that there was any chemistry between Rob and Allison. He’s “all about his wife,” Hughey said.
“I think, you know, in teenage years they were just in awe of her. I think both of them had a crush on her. But Naveen really had the crush on her,” Hughey said. “And in the present day, Rob just loves Samira and is all about all about his wife.”

It’s quite clear even Hughey is rooting for Naveen (Kapil Talwalkar) and Allison to get their happily ever after. Naveen makes it clear once he learns about Allison’s return that he still has feelings for her. But the childhood friends barely have time to catch up after seemingly solving the case. Allison announces she’s leaving Hinkley Hills for a fresh start. And, to make matters worse, Kapil even gets kidnapped at the end of Season 1 when Rob and Samira realized the garbage man was working for the HOA.
“I love to hear that,” Hughey said when I mentioned we’re shipping Allison with Naveen.
Hughey teased that there may be more coming from these characters in Season 2, especially after that major cliffhanger.
While sharing her plans for Season 2, Hughey said, “I want to be able to dig into more secrets of the town and secrets of Samira and possibly see Allison come back again to – to if Naveen comes back, too. There’s so many, so many little layers and things.”
She added, “But I hope we get to tell the stories of these characters and have it continue. And I hope the audience is excited to see more.”
The ‘Burbs is streaming now on Peacock.
