The UN again flaunts its sneering contempt for human decency by giving Iran top position

The United Nations — that outpost of moral posturing, corruption and despotism on the East River — again showed its true colors this week by electing Iran to serve as vice-chair of the UN Commission for Social Development.

Coming literally as the Islamic Republic slaughters tens of thousands of protesters, this move basically endorses the right of tyrants.

The Commission for Social Development supposedly works to eradicate poverty and “advance social integration.”

How does shooting patients in their hospital beds and torturing a Nobel peace laureate helps integrate society? Maybe UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who just sent his “warmest congratulations” to Iran’s totalitarian regime on the anniversary of its seizure of power, can explain.

Remember: The United Nations employed Hamas officers and footsoldiers who participated in the Oct. 7 massacre and kidnapping of Israelis; it has facilitated Hamas’ fascistic control of Gaza by allowing it to divert supplies and aid for military purposes and provides humanitarian cover for a terrorist organization.

Even France is now trying to clear this fog of moral blindness: Its delegation is demanding the removal of the execrable Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese for her recent comments at an Al Jazeera-sponsored conference in Qatar that Israel — and the “system” it controls — is the “common enemy” of all humanity. (Italy, Germany, Austria and others want her gone, too.)

This disgusting Nazi-level rhetoric would be shocking if it weren’t so normal in UN circles.

Since 2015, the UN General Assembly has condemned Israel 187 times, about three times more than it has tut-tutted all the world’s other nations combined.

Let’s hope the United Nations soon collapses under the weight of its own corruption; if the world is to have any kind of global institution, it shouldn’t be one that celebrates the worst of humanity.
