Zohran’s cold homeless policy: Letters to the Editor — Feb. 13, 2026

I am flummoxed; Mayor Mamdani acts as if he cares about the homeless, but he will not instruct the NYPD to dismantle homeless encampments (“Mr. Freeze’s cold, cold heart,” Michael Goodwin, Feb. 11).

His policy toward the homeless has allowed 18 people to freeze in the bitter cold. Is this the real program of Democratic Socialists? That “caring statements” are not followed with action? I shudder to think what is in store for New York in the future.

Martin Garfinkle

Staten Island

Mamdani’s callousness regarding the homeless who died outside in the cold and the creation of a vehicle for antisemitic propaganda within the Department of Health are both attributable to this ugly reality: He cares more about Gaza than New York City.

David Rabinovitz

Brooklyn

Where are the demonstrations over the tragic loss of life due to the mayor’s policy? Where’s the chanting in the streets, the blocking of traffic, the demand for life-saving policy change?

The left makes noise and creates unrest on behalf of criminal illegal aliens, but not for unfortunate souls who are freezing to death on the streets of New York City.

Michelle Graham

Lynbrook

With near-daily regularity, The Post excoriates and demeans the new mayor with the albatross of failure to expeditiously clear streets clogged with the aftermath of the worst blizzard in years.

Apparently, Mamdani is directly responsible for the resultant obstacle of massive trash pile-ups, and the near-impossible task of corralling the poor unfortunates who populate the vast city’s streets and subways with neither means nor sense to prevent their own frozen demise.

There’s also a holdup in The Bronx, Brooklyn’s broken out in fights, there’s a traffic jam in Harlem that’s backed up to Jackson Heights, and I’m assuming naturally, Zo is the guilty party. Give it a rest.

If the homeless can’t be taken to shelters unless they’re a danger to others or themselves . . . think about it for a second. They are a danger to themselves because they risk freezing to death as we have seen.

Take them indoors to avoid more deaths. Or is this Mamdani’s answer to controlling the homeless population? Such ineptitude is simply unforgivable.

Way to go Zo: You finally figured out how to get rid of the homeless off the streets of New York City without using the police, EMTs or any other agencies.

Now all you have to do is get a supply of body bags. Maybe former Gov. Andrew Cuomo can tell you where to get them.

Mamdani’s homeless policy of letting people “choose” to stay outside is not far off of places like Canada with their assisted-suicide policies.

Governments and their agencies should operate with a “life preservation” attitude. If you don’t make choices that continue life, you may not be mentally fit to make important decisions.

I just read that the fiendish ghoul, Mayor Mamdani, allowed an 18th victim to freeze to death in the cold.

My question is, why do the police obey his command to not take someone into custody who is a clear danger to themselves? Protecting people who are a danger to themselves or others is part of their job. When did this change?

The cops should just say no to his insane demands. Refusing to protect someone who is not competent to care for themselves, when their behavior will obviously lead to their death, is a form of homicide, in my opinion.

Hillarie Goldstein

Franklin, NH

It’s a disgrace how Mamdani just let these people freeze to death during our bitter cold spell.

He is so out of touch — after only a month and a half since he became mayor. He has no idea what he’s doing and is unfit to be the mayor of New York City, period.
